I am writing in praise of an electrician that I contacted via my local copy of Quickfind (Shirley, Hall Green, Wythall)- Alan Webb (AW Electrical Services). We had the National Grid master fuse on the supply side of our meter blow at 4am in the morning of 2 January, the first really cold day of the current freeze. Alan quickly located the problem, and although it was something that he couldn't handle directly (it required National Grid Linesmen with special kit to work with live wires) he nevertheless stayed with us for several hours, handling all the Liaison with National Grid, and skilfully persuading them to prioritise us as pensioners with health issues. He couldn't have been more helpful or caring - working well beyond the call of duty. He kept in touch with us after he left, and we were re-connected before 10pm that evening. A star!

"It was after 9pm on a Friday night when I first contacted Alan. My 87year old father who lives alone had suddenly lost all his electrics, leaving him with no lighting or heating in his flat. Called Alan and explained the situation. He took all the details and arrived at my father's within the hour and stayed there until after midnight, temporarily restoring the power and enabling my father to be safe with heat and light until the following day. "A knight in a van. I cannot praise Alan enough. When trying to put up Christmas lights outside I managed to blow my circuit boards last Saturday afternoon and found Alans number in our local directory. When I spoke to him I could tell that he really wanted to go home after working that morning and he tried to talk me though all the things it could be but I still couldn't get any plugs to work so he said he would come out and sort out the problem. "We contacted Alan and left a short message, giving details of our enquiry, he came back to us quickly to arrange to come and quote. All throughout his time at our home, he was very respectful of social distancing and adhered to mask wearing and sanitising etc. His quote arrived quickly and we arranged for him to carry out the work. Alan fitted a new double socket, running TV cable from the loft as well as a further power socket and wiring for a Samsung Frame TV which he fitted in one bedroom and similar electrical work in a second bedroom. "The electric gates that are for 4 bungalows didn’t open this morning so she called him up at 6.30. He helped them on the phone, told them what they needed to do. He was very knowledgeable. She spoke to him 2-3 times between 6.30-7 and he called her back to check that what he said had worked. They have got them open now.
